Frederick
County Public Schools (FCPS) includes nine high schools ranging
in size from 900 to over 2,100. The total enrollment for the school
system exceeds 40,000 students. The high school athletic programs
consists of twenty three varsity, eleven junior varsity and three
ninth grade teams per school competing in fifteen sports, in addition
to cheerleading. FCPS employs over 400 coaches to supervise and
teach the nearly 6,000 students who participate in the athletic
program.
The Frederick County Public Schools
Athletic Association, the governing body of FCPS Athletics is
composed of nine principals
of the nine county high schools. The association regulates the interscholastic
program. The association reports to the associate superintendent
for secondary schools of FCPS
and is administered by Lynn Carr, the Supervisor of Athletics.
Each
FCPS high school has an athletic director who supervises and administers
the local school athletic program.
All coaches are hired at the local school level. Prospective coaches
should contact the local high
school athletic director for specific coaching vacancies.
The athletic program is operated
under the regulations of the Maryland Public Secondary School Athletic
Association (MPSSAA). The MPSSAA is comprised of over 80,000 athletes,
180 member schools and is divided into nine districts. The MPSSAA
hosts twenty-three state tournaments.
