SAFE & SANE POST GRADUATION PARTY

Attention Seniors. Have you registered yet for the Safe and Sane Post Graduation Party? Join your classmates at Adventure Park USA in New Market where you'll have the entire park to yourselves all night long. Admission to the Safe and Sane party is free, but donations are appreciated. More importantly, you must pre-register to attend. Registration forms can be picked up from and returned to the office, and should be turned in as soon as possible. Come enjoy an all-night celebration with your classmates at Safe and Sane 2008.

NEW FCPS DRUG/ALCOHOL/TOBACCO POLICY

With the start of the this past fall athletic season, FCPS introduced new, stricter penalties governing disciplinary consequences for alcohol, tobacco, drugs and drug paraphernalia offenses.

Alcohol, drug and tobacco use are extremely serious offenses. The new provisions apply to student athletes, regardless of whether they are in or out of season.

A participating student athlete involved in possession, use, being under the influence to any degree, or being party to an actual or attempted transaction of any of the substances that are or have the appearance of drugs (prescription or non-prescription used outside of their legal medical purposes), steroids, alcohol, tobacco, narcotics, controlled dangerous substances, inhalants, or drug paraphernalia on or off school property, under or not under school supervision, shall be subject to the following consequences:

1. Immediate exclusion from the team activity for 20% of regularly scheduled competitions or performances. If less than 20% of regularly scheduled competitions or performances in which a student is officially representing the school remain, there will be a carryover into the post season and/or next season of participation including the following year so that the total exclusion level is at 20%. During a 20% exclusion period, the student may continue to participate in all other team activities and attend but not participate in competitions.

AND

2. The student athlete must complete an assessment by an approved and recommended substance abuse program and complete an approved program recommended as a result of the assessment.

Failure to comply with part 2 results in no participation for 12 months from the date penalty is imposed.

Second and subsequent violations will result in exclusion from all participation for 12 months from the date penalty is imposed.

BOYS' SOCCER MEETING

There will be a BOYS' SOCCER MEETING on Thursday, May 15th, at 7:30 p.m. in the Cafeteria. Anyone interested in playing Boys' Soccer in the Fall must attend!

SGA SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP

SENIORS! Each year the SGA awards a $2000 scholarship to recognize a senior who has demonstrated exemplary service to FHS and the community. Half the money goes directly to the student while the other half goes to the charity of the winner's choice. Applications are available in the main office and Guidance office. APPLICATIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED TO MRS. STRAKONSKY IN ROOM 227 BY MAY 16. This scholarship is available to ANY SENIOR; you do not need to be a member of SGA.

SUMMER CURRICULUM WORKSHOPS

TO ALL CERTIFIED STAFF MEMBERS:

The Summer Curriculum Workshops will be conducted at Walkersville Elementary/High School campus this summer. The workshop "window" will be Monday, June 30, through Thursday, July 17, 2008.

Three copies of the workshop booklet have been sent via the courier to each school. A link has also been established on FCPS TeachNet under NEW!

It is possible to complete the application on a PC, save it on a hard drive or diskette, and return it as an attachment to an email sent directly to Deb Huffman. If you prefer, you may send a hard copy of the completed application using the courier service to Deb Huffman at Church Street.

I hope you will give serious consideration to participating in one or more of these workshops. Curriculum Specialists or Supervisors can provide additional information about specific workshops. Thanks!
