Unit Objectives
  1. The learner will demonstrate an understanding of the effects of good nutrition by analyzing and revising his/her diet to meet recommended daily allowances of nutrients.
  2. The learner will exhibit an understanding of the effects of good nutrition by planning a personal menu balanced according to RDA’s and the food pyramid.
  3. The learner will utilize the six groups of essential nutrients, their functions and sources when planning a balanced menu.
  4. The learner will differentiate between the processes of digestion, absorption and metabolism and describe their relationship to nutrition.
  5. The learner will demonstrate an understanding of the effects of malnutrition by identifying diseases that their diet pattern may increase risk.
  6. The learner will demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between disease and nutrition by describing therapeutic diets for specific diseases states.
  7. The student will use technology to augment research by accessing identified internet resources, and enhance presentation of work using spreadsheet software for documentation and calculations, and word processing software for documentation.
