SAT Express/ ACT Express

The SAT Express and ACT Express will both be held at Saint John's Catholic Prep on Butterfly Lane. Please pick up an information sheet in the THS Guidance Office. The University of Pittsburgh Offices of Admissions and Financial Aid have scheduled numerous presentations for rising senior high school students this summer. Summer visitation programs are set for Saturdays on June 21st, July 12th, 19th & 26th and August 2nd, 9th & 16th. All programs will run from 8 am through 2 pm. Programs for specific career fields will be held on Fridays throughout the summer. John Robert Powers Performing Arts Academy of Balltimore

The John Robert Powers Performing Arts Academy of Baltimore will be sending a representative to Tuscarora H.S. on Wednesday, May 14th. The representative will have a table set up in the cafeteria for all four lunch shifts. Students interested in speaking with the representative and obtaining information should just walk up to the rep. and introduce themselves.

The John S. Martinez Scholarship

Guidance
The National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL) Comcast Scholarship Program is designed specifically to help Hispanic high school students achieve educational success. NHCSL will award a scholarship to Hispanic High School students in four target states: Colorado, Florida, Illinois and Maryland (three from each state). Interested and qualifying students may pick up an application in our Guidance Office. Qualified applicants must have a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0, be Hispanic or of Hispanic descent, be a U.S. citizen or a legal resident (proof required) must be a junior or senior enrolled full-time in a piblic high school and must be nominated by a school principal, guidance counselor, teacher or Hispanic state legislator. Completed applications with all attachments must be mailed by the student, postmarked by May 12th, 2008.

Students Interested in Forestry & Natural Resources

Guidance
Students interested in a career in forestry and natural resources may wish to explore this unique opportunity for high school students. The Natural Resources Careers Conference is a week long hands-on educational program held the last full week in July at the Hickory Environmental Education Center in Garrett County, MD. These classes are taught by professionals in the field. Steve Rash of Allegany College is the Curriculum Director. Students can optionally apply and pay for two college credits given by Allegany College to students who complete the entire week of classes and pass an exam. The goal is to recruit two qualified students from each county. Applicants are interviewed and selected by their local Forestry Boards. The Boards then pay for the $300 tuition fee. USHYEE/Mirant STEM Scholarship

United States Hispanic Youth Entrepreneur Education (USHYEE) is sponsoring the Mirant STEM Scholarship for graduating Seniors from Maryland High Schools. This organization was founded to address the high drop-out rate of Hispanic youth and to address career options.

Applicants must be pursuing a major in the Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) fields. The applicant must be attending a public or private Maryland college or university. Minimum cumulative high school GPA is 2.75. The applicant must be enrolling as a full-time college student and agree to belong to the USHYEE Leaders Program. The completed application and all attachments must be mailed by the student and received by 5:00pm on Friday, May 16th, 2008.

Congressman Bartlett's Office To Present Military Academy Information

ATTENTION: Juniors & Seniors - On Tuesday, May 27th at 9:30, representatives from Congressman Bartlett's office will be at Tuscarora High School to present information to students about the various U.S. military academies. Interested students need to sign up on a list in the Guidance Office. This will be a great opportunity to also learn about the application and nomination process for the U.S. Military Academy (West Point), the U. S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Airforce Academy and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
